How to register with Help to Buy Agent for the South and what happens next

If you're looking to buy your first home using the Help to Buy: Shared Ownership scheme or you'd like to rent a property through one of the rental schemes; Rent-to-Buy or Intermediate Rent, you will need to be registered with Help to Buy Agent for the South first.

Registering with us is quick, free and easy and you can do so online via our website. Once you've completed your application it will be assessed and then you can start to apply for properties to buy or rent, if eligible.

The registration process
To register with us you'll need to complete a simple application form which will take around 30 minutes to complete. During the application you will tell us about yourself, your income and your requirements; for example where you would like to live and what type of property you are looking for.

Once we receive your application it will be registered instantly if eligible, and you will receive an email confirmation of your registration, with your unique reference number straight away. However, if your application needs further review it will be assessed within 4 working days, so ensure to fill out the application as accurately and in as much detail as you can. 

What happens next
Once your application has been approved by us and we've notified you that you are registered, we recommend you seek financial advice to understand your own individual affordability. You can find a financial adviser or mortgage adviser, near to you on the Financial Services Register. A range of tools and calculators are also available from the Money Advice Service.

It’s then time to start looking for your home. Visit our website and start your property search; make sure to save your searches as you'll get notifications when properties matching your criteria are added to the website. This is one of the best ways to find out about new homes coming to the market.

Recent changes to the buying process mean that to get more information about a home or development you're interested in, you must contact the Housing Association or Developer selling or letting that home. To do this, you need to log in to your application, find the property listing and click on the 'register interest' button. This will send your details straight to the seller who can then contact you with more information. This will also allow them to view your application to ensure it meets their criteria as well as the scheme criteria.
